H-Man “Why CD Prices should be set at 1000 Naira” Exclusive

At the moment, to purchase a music album in Nigeria, you would have to fork out 150 Naira. However, there’s been a growing debate on the need to increase the prices as artistes are working harder and getting better. The argument has been that an increase might force Pirates to abandon their trade while hard-working artistes yield the fruit of their labour.

In a message to his fans, H-Man one of Nigeria’s superstars stressed his view on the need for an increase in the price of an album. Here is what he had to say. Please drop your view on the way forward

“Let us help and sensitize fans on reasons why cds should be 1000 naira, if cds are sold at a reasonable prize it will discourage pirates. If you really love naija music then you have to support your so called artistes. If maga no really need pay then you have to support your local artistes because when things change to the right way then it will provide more jobs in our nation and more talented people will be encouraged to join the industry. More investors will be attracted to our industry. International labels will come and take their place in our industry and your favourite local artistes will easily become international”

He went further in stating that we should try and understand Nigerian artistes more as they are working harder at the moment. According to him, “Let’s not leave our fans to criticise 2face because of the prize of his Cd because it is in the benefit of our industry and our nation. 150 naira for a cd is very sick and insane…. 1000 naira is the future. Not everyone can afford a cd in the US and the UK so am sure everyone won’t afford cds at 1000 naira in naija”

This calls for a proper debate on the way forward. Hence, you candid opinion is welcome.

lmao @ Green Pasture. You hit the nail on the head. Anyway all those subscribing to this 1000naira price plan should be aware that their original cds will gather dust in their warehouse. And by the laws of economics, the pirates will only stand to benefit more from the increase sales from those who cannot afford the original even though they would like to.
