Lars Largerback today released his 30 man provisional squad in the quest for a respectable outing at South Africa 2010 .The initial 44 man squad announced last month has been reduced to thirty despite the failure of the proposed camp in London .Largerback prepared the list in consultation with the NFF technical committee .Notable absentees include Seyi Olofinjana (Hull City) and Michael Eneramo (Esperance) who both featured prominently under Amodu . However the Utaka brothers John and Peter have been given a chance to prove themselves before the final 23 man squad is released on June 1 . John Mikel Obi and Ikechuckwu Uche are also included but both are in a race against time to be fit . The squad will kick off their preparations in 2 weeks with a friendly against Saudi Arabia in Austria (May 25) and then a game against Columbia in London (May 30) before departing to South Africa
Nigeria are drawn in Group B of the World Cup with Argentina, Greece and South Korea

Peter Utaka made the squad!!!!!!!!!! I had given up hope but it seems I will be supporting Nigeria this year. Just got to wait for the final draft and hope he doesn’t fall my hand. But the first draft is looking promising, got some hungry talented guys in there.
Largerback, I hope you’ve got my back…..lol

Happy with the sqaud but Largerback please drop Mikel to the bench with Kanu. Yak must not make that list. I heard the Terna guy is a rugged player I hope to see him. We need a creative midfielder now abeg. best wishes to my Super Eagles….

I do think Olofinjana should have made the squad, he is a similar type of defensive midfielder to Dickson Etuhu and since lagerback decided to choose Ayila and Kaita, then he should have taken Olofinjana. And talking of creative midlfielders, what happened to Haruna.

I am happy we r playing argentina in the first match. It could work well for us by serving as a reality check. After loosing the first match (as they did in the nations cup), the players would realise that they need to perform outstandingly to sail through against the other two teams.
But it may work to our disadvantage as argentina may win their first two matches and play their second team in the third match. So the team that plays argentina last may be able to pick up some points from them.

Kaita and Ayila should not be allowed anywhere near the final squad. I agree with Ladi, Olofinjana should be in there. As for Haruna, I’m not sure if the deep end of the world cup will be the best place to put him to test cos the occasion might get the better of him. But then again, he is an old man with a young boys passport……lol

Guys, we cannot have so many defensive players in the team. Mind you, some of our strikers are defensive strikers. Olofinjana has lost his stings that took him to super eagles. Kaita and Ayila are just another NFF (Naija Football Fools) stupidity. I doubt if Largerback picked them two on merit. Ayila is wack and the same goes for Mikel who won’t add anything to the squad. Why take Kanu and John Utaka?

I hope Utaka makes it. He might be past his prime but he gives us options as he can play on both flanks as well as up front.

The selection was not courageous enough. What are the likes of Kanu, john utaka doing in the team. Also mike eneramo should have been picked. PLEASE DROP KANU AND UTAKA BOTH OF PORTSMOUTH. Yobo and mikel are not fit and even when fit
