The never-ending search for a replacement for Shaibu Amodu has taken a dramatic twist as it appears that former England Coach Glen Hoddle has emerged as a red hot favourite to land the job . The 52-year-old, who took England to the round of 16 in France 98 where they lost to Argentina via penalties after a 2-2 draw, is said to have met with Nigeria Football Federation officials in London recently. According to reports from Kickoffnigeria , England’s Hoddle was added to the shortlist by the Nigeria officials during the course last friday’s interview process , where they reportedly met with Bruno Metsu, Ratomir Djukovic and Lars Lagerback.
Hoddle flew into London from Spain, where he owns and runs the Glenn Hoddle Academy. His presentation is said to have blown away the NFF selection panel, particularly National Sports Commission Director General Patrick Ekeji. It is also understood that Hoddle is not making outrageous financial demands, which also sits well with Ekeji. His main rival for the job is a former England coach in Sven Goran Eriksson .Both are reportedly due in Nigeria within the week for the last stage of the process .
The NFF has stipulated that the incoming coach has been set a target of a semi-final place at the World Cup and must be resident within the country during the duration of the contract. The Executive Committee of the NFF has also stated it will meet on Friday 26th February 2010, to ratify the decision of the selection panel and unveil their choice on the same day.
Is Hoddle what Nigeria needs right now? What do you think?

They need to be decisive. Hopefully they get their act sorted out in time to give the new manager time to develop his team. But more importantly, we hope that he will be given the freedom to make all footballing decisions without the interfereance of NFF, PTF, Oputa panel and what not

But how good is Glen? My problem is that is he better than Siasia? Is he up to date with modern football? I honestly doubt it. Nevertheless, we must give him a chance.
