Without a doubt, the legacy of Fela Anikulapo kuti lingers in our thoughts whenever we listen to Afrobeat. Fela set up the African shrine in Lagos Nigeria where he used to perform live. A place where Afrobeat fans go to enjoy their time. Femi Kuti, the son of the Legendary Fela who rebuilt a new shrine has been in charge in terms of running the shrine and he’s facing the litmus test of keeping it open and going. Fela managed to keep it open amidst tough Military Junta but with a civilian government, the new face of Afrobeat has been calling on music lovers to resist the government’s plan to shut the shrine. The government is arguing that the street of the shrine has been turned into a danger zone with drugs and other negative allegations against the shrine.

Nevertheless, Femi Kuti refuses to accept such allegations and has called on the Nigerian government to concentrate on its people by getting themselves busy with providing electricity, quality education and other basic amenities. When asked if he was a political leader what he would do, he said “help the people of Zimbabwe in overthrowing the Mugabe era”.
