The gist has been that Galala is dead but the reverse is the case as Streetnaij went on a short tour to the Ghetto city that gave fame to the likes of Daddy Showkey, Daddy Fresh and other top Ajegunle stars. The region is one of the suburb of Lagos state Nigeria and is highly blessed with talent irrespective of the hardship most of them go through. Going through the streets of Ajegunle, you are quickly reminded of the fact that it’s all about hustle all the way. The various stores are busy blasting music when there is electricity.

One great thing is that even the shops that are not selling music tapes are busy blasting lovely brand new songs. They are always happy and proud of their type of music that have helped in shaping the Nigerian music industry. Speaking with some of the locals, they stated that Galala is not dead but is evolving. The idea is that there is what is now called “Alata” which is the new style of dance in Ajegunle. The dance step involves a dancer really twisting their body in a crazy way but with some love for the song. It takes on from where galala stopped. Its like a combination of galala and something new. This is how alata came into its current position. Most of the people stated that its not that galala is dead its just that most AJ people find it difficult to promote their talent and songs. They talk of how difficult it is to convince some Radio stations to play their songs without having to pay and that is what they cannot afford. Streetnaj is on a huge expedition and will bring our findings in January 2010 when we are fully done.
