When Africa was made the host continent for the 2010 world cup, most Africans especially Nigerians felt it might be their time to win something big. The super Eagles of Nigeria had a woeful outing in the last African cup of Nations and the fans have been on their back ever since. The qualifying stages for the 2010 world cup took off last week with the Eagles away to Mozambique. Most Nigerians expected their team to trash their lowly ranked opposition but the reverse was the case. The Eagles were held to a goalless draw. Their performance was rated an unacceptable poor outing. With Tunisia beating Kenya 2-1, Nigeria is left with a possibility of not having a team in the 2010 world cup to be held in Africa. The draw left so many fans fuming and calling for the coach Amodu Shuaibu to be sacked and replaced with the popular Samson Siasia who is arguably the best upcoming coach in Africa. However, Amodu has called for calm stating that the Eagles will qualify. One thing is clear from the current squad, they cannot be compared to the 1994 squad that made all Nigerians proud. We await the next game to see how the Eagles perform.
